Almost doneA GST consent letter (also called NOC for GST registration) is a document signed by the property owner giving permission to use their premises as the principal place of business for GST registration.
It is required when the applicant does not own the business premises — whether rented, shared, or belonging to a family member.
Is a consent letter mandatory for GST registration?
Yes. If the principal place of business is rented, shared, or belongs to a family member, the GST portal requires a consent letter as address proof.
On what paper should the consent letter be printed?
Most GST offices accept plain A4 paper with owner's signature. Some may require stamp paper (Rs. 50 or Rs. 100). Use "Stamp Paper" mode — content auto-aligns to the bottom.
What documents are required along with the consent letter?
A copy of the property owner's identity proof (Aadhaar/PAN) and the latest electricity bill or utility bill of the premises.
Can a consent letter be on plain paper?
Yes, in most cases plain paper with the owner's signature is acceptable. For better legal standing, many practitioners recommend getting it on stamp paper.
Does the consent letter need to be notarized?
Notarization is not mandatory in most states. A signed letter from the property owner is sufficient. Some GST officers may request notarization.
What if the property is jointly owned?
Consent should ideally be obtained from all owners. For complex situations, consult a tax professional.
